Itinerary
1Reach Guwahati and drive to Bhalukpong in the foothills of Arunachal in the Eastern Himalayas.
2Visit the Orchid Research Centre in Tippi and see rare and lovely blooms followed by a drive into the higher altitudes of Arunachal to reach Dirang - a town situated in the valley of river Kameng and inhabited by the Monpa tribe. Later visit the Thubsung Dhargyeling Monastery & the National Research Centre on Yak.
3 Enjoy a driving excursion into the gorgeous and pristine Sangti Valley.
4Drive to Tawang. Move along the Dirang River followed by a climb to Sela Pass at 13,700 ft. Explore a small lake called Paradise Lake near the pass and go downhill to Jaswantgarh. Visit the delightful Nuranag Waterfall going all along the Tawangchu River Valley to reach Tawang township.
5 Enjoy a driving excursion to Sangestar Tso - a lake which was formed in 1950, following a major earthquake. Later head to Bumla Pass - the Indo-China border at 15,000 ft.
6 Explore Tawang. Visit the glorious Tawang Monastery (400 yrs old with 500 resident monks and a big centre of Mahayana Buddhism), Tawang Memorial, Ani Gompa, Crafts Emporium, the vibrant local market.
7 Start the drive to Bomdila: the headquarter of West Kameng district. If time permits, visit the monastery and spend the evening strolling in the local market.
8Drive back down into Assam, reach the plantation-draped forests of Balipara and check into a lovely Planters Bungalow. End the day at leisure!
9Leave for Guwahati and depart for home.
