A drive through some of the most remote regions that will leave you proud and humbled
Gear up to put your mountain driving skills to the test on an exhilarating self-drive Himalayan safari, exploring paths that aren’t even found on Google Maps! Over the course of two weeks, we’ll journey through the remote and pristine regions of the Northwestern Indian Himalayas, enjoying immersive camps and relaxing picnics along the way. Our route will take us from Himachal Pradesh via Shinku La to the stunning Zanskar region of Ladakh, then through Kishtwar in Jammu & Kashmir to Killar and back. This challenging yet thrilling experience is perfect for any driving enthusiast!
Please Note: If you have some experience of high-altitude mountain driving, then this expedition is recommended for you.
1Arrive at Kullu. Rest, acclimatise and explore the valley.
2Start off with a drive from Manali to the starkly different landscape of Gemur / Jispa via Attal Tunnel.
3Stay at Gemur and acclimatise with an optional drive till Baralacha La Pass.
4Begin the remote journey as you drive from Gemur to Purne over Shinku La. Stop for a picnic lunch at Gombo Rajan.
5Hike from Purne to Phuktal. Return and drive to Padum.
6Drive from Padum to Lamayuru via Zangla, crossing Singe La, Wanla and Sirsir La
7Drive from Lamayuru to Kargil.
8Drive from Kargil to the lush green valleys of Kashmir. Reach Srinanagar and enjoy a relaxing sunset shikara ride.
9Explore Srinagar.
10Drive from Srinagar to Kishtwar and finally to Gulabgarh—the land of sapphire, saffron and shrines.
11Drive from Gulabgarh and head back to Himachal. Overnight stay in a mobile camp at Sural Battori (Pangi Valley, Chamba).
12Explore the majestic views of Sural Battori with local walks.
13Drive from Sural Battori to Dalhousie via Sach—the final high mountain pass of this journey.
14Dalhousie to your respective destination.
