At an altitude of about 2350 m, the Banjara Orchard Retreat at Thanedar, offers a magnificent panorama of orchard-clad mountains. Visit stunning viewpoints, temples and at the end of the day, under a starry sky, gather around the bonfire as your host, Mr. Prakash Thakur, shares local legends, myths, interesting folk tales, and fascinating stories about the rich culture and heritage of Thanedar.
Sangla
In the lap of forested mountains, the roaring Baspa River, and a quiet orchard lies the idyllic Banjara Valley Retreat. Tour the local Himachali villages of Batseri and Rakcham, take a snow walk of Chitkul - the last Indian village on the Indo-Tibetan border, and a snow hike to the border outpost of Nagasthi. End the day with an evening bonfire!
Spiti
Embark on a picturesque drive from Karcham to Kaza through Spiti's classic Cold Desert landscape, visiting the frozen Nako lake, the over 1000-year-old Tabo monastery, and the stunningly located Dhankar Gompa en route. Spend leisure time in Kaza, exploring the town and high-altitude villages like Kibber, Gete, Langza, and take a mandatory stop at the Ki Monastery and Chicham bridge, all while the valley is covered in its thick blanket of snow.
Itinerary
1Chandigarh to Thanedar: Arrive at Banjara Orchard Retreat in Thanedar.
2Thanedar - Sarahan - Sangla: Travel from Thanedar to Sarahan, and end the day with your arrival at Banjara Valley Retreat in Sangla.
3Sangla: Spend the day exploring Batseri, Chitkul (the last Indian village) and Nagasthi.
4 Sangla to Tabo: Ascend to Upper Kinnaur and see the terrain transform into a classic Cold Desert landscape.
5Tabo - Dhankar - Kaza: Visit the 1000-year old ancient monastery, visit Dhankar Gompa and enjoy panoramic views of the snow clad valley.
6 Explore high-altitude villages: Get up close to locals’ winter lifestyle with visits to Kibber, Gete, and Langza. Also make a stop to the iconic Ki Monastery and Chicham bridge.
7Kaza to Kalpa: Head back to Kinnaur and enjoy soul-stirring views of the Kinner Kailash Massif.
8Kalpa to Thanedar: Drive back to Thanedar with some sightseeing on the way. Spend the night at Banjara Orchard Retreat.
