Sometimes the journey to the summit is just as important as reaching the top. The Everest Base Camp trek is a reminder that the beauty is in the journey, not just the destination.
The Everest Base Camp trek is a bucket list-worthy journey through the breathtaking Khumbu region of Nepal, guiding trekkers through stunning Himalayan landscapes, charming villages, and awe-inspiring mountain vistas. Beginning in Lukla, the trail winds its way to the base camp of the world’s highest peak, Mount Everest. Along the route, you’ll traverse vibrant Sherpa villages, immersing yourself in the rich culture and traditions of the region. While the trek presents challenges, it is accessible to those with a reasonable level of fitness, offering an unforgettable adventure and a chance to witness some of the world’s most magnificent natural wonders.
Please Note: You should start preparing for the trek at least 3-4 months in advance with regular exercise and cardio workouts.
1Arrive at Kathmandu’s Tribhuvan International Airport and transfer to the city for last-minute shopping and lunch. Afterward, drive to Mulkot, just an hour from Rammechhap Airport, in preparation for your flight the next morning.
2Fly from Manthalai to Lukla in the morning, enjoying stunning views as you enter the Everest region. Then, trek from Lukla to Phakding, an easy descent that leads you to the river.
3Trek from Phakding to Namche Bazaar along the Dudh Kosi River, passing fields and villages. After lunch in Monjo, cross a suspension bridge into Sagarmatha National Park, then steeply ascend to Namche Bazaar for breathtaking views of Everest, Lhotse, and Nuptse. Arrive in the vibrant town for dinner and an overnight stay.
4Acclimatisation break and overnight stay at a lodge in Namche Bazaar.
5Trek from Namche Bazaar to Thyangboche, descending through rhododendron forests while watching for Blood and Impeyan Pheasants. Enjoy lunch at Phunki Thanga by the Dudh Kosi River before ascending to Thyangboche Monastery, renowned for its stunning views of Ama Dablam and Everest. Explore this significant monastery, a blessing spot for Everest expeditions, before an overnight stay at a tea house.
6After breakfast, trek to Dingboche, starting with a level path before ascending to Pangboche (4010m). Continue along the river to Tshomare for lunch, then cross the Khumbu Khola before descending into Dingboche. Enjoy an overnight stay at a lodge.
7Acclimatisation day in Dingboche. After breakfast, we'll hike a nearby hill to gain 300 meters in elevation, enjoying stunning views of Mt. Tawache, Ama Dablam, Island Peak, Lhotse, Everest, and Pumori. Overnight at a lodge in Dingboche.
8Trek from Dingboche to Lobuche, taking in views of Mt. Cholatese and Ama Dablam. Stop for lunch at Thugla, then ascend to the Sherpa Memorial honoring lost climbers. Continue to the Khumbu Glacier, arriving at Lobuche for dinner and an overnight stay.
9Trek from Lobuche to Everest Base Camp, passing the rocky terrain of the Khumbu Glacier. After about three hours, reach Gorakshep, where you can drop off your packs and rest. While Base Camp is a crucial site for expeditions, it doesn't offer direct views of Everest. Instead, it serves as a hub for climbers, with various locations used as semi-permanent camps. Enjoy an overnight stay at a lodge in Gorakshep.
10Trek from Gorakshep to the summit of Kala Patthar for stunning views of the Himalayan peaks, including Mt. Everest, Lingtren, and Nuptse.
