Possibly one of the most scenic treks in the country
The Great Lakes trail is a recent discovery for trekkers as it has remained out of bounds only till last 10 odd years. This week long alpine journey takes one through some of the most breakthtaking high altitude lakes Kashmir has to offer with magnificient views of snow capped mountains and ridge lines. While majority of the trek is moderate, it involves crossing a few high passes and some rocky sections. All in all a must-do trek for every avid trekker out there.
Please Note: One must be fit enough to cross high altitude passes.
1Arrive in Srinagar. Overnight at hotel.
2Drive to Sonamarg (3 to 4 hours). O/N at camp in Shitkadi (2300m)
3Shitkadi (2300m) to Nichnai (3500m) via Shekdur
4Nichnai (3500m) to Vishansar (3600m) via Nichnai pass (4100m)
5Explore Kishansar and Vishansar. Acclimatisation day
6Vishansar (3600m) to Gadsar (3800m) via Gadsar pass (4200m)
7Gadsar (3800m) and Satsar (3600m)
8Satsar (3600m) to Gangbal (3500m) (and Nundkol) via Zach pass (4000m)
9Gangbal (3500m) to Naranag (2300m). Drive to Srinagar.
